A teacher, philosopher and a guide to all his students, Professor Ballal is an inspiration in so many ways. Not just for those that he taught and trained, but for all surgeons, his life is an example on how to practice surgery both as an art and as an honourable profession. This book traces his life right from his younger days, through his formative period and his establishment as a successful surgeon and a teacher par excellence. The honesty with which he has written his autobiography is clearly evident. Even today his words ring in my ears 'To be a good surgeon, you first have to be a good person' of which he is a shining example.
