Ad astra isn’t like interstellar or Martian with its epic sci finess, the trailer doesn’t do its justice and expects the movie to be epic and loud but in reality it’s intimate, slow and sometimes depressing. The sci fi elements are actually really impressive, making sense but it’s not the main focus of the movie. The movie starts slow and slowly builds its characters, it’s world and it’s relationships between characters. But at the second hour of the movie what drives this movie is Roy’s desperation to reach out his father, filled with the feeling of loneliness in the emptiness of vast space filled with amazing cinematography and music. I really love this movie, it’s not what I expected but really well done.

I’m not going to fault the characters here because of they aren’t actors, they’re portraying themselves when I’ve learned that. The movie takes time to set up their backstory which is just filled with horrendous acting from everyone but the kids, though after the childhood it does start to get a lot better. Then it switches to a sort of relaxed sequence of events but still sort of cringey . The actual incident starts at the last thirty minutes of the movie which is actually the highlight which is standard. However, I do have to fault the awful dialogue writing, filled with straight white male language with dude and bro’s and just a whole lot more 1000x, not a bad movie considering it’s characters if I’m going to be honest.

This film could have been a lot better but a lot worse, the atmosphere was almost there with its dreadful slow burn eerie type but it isn’t enough to scare and wonder what’s around the corner, it half did. Then it’s quickly stopped by some sort of interesting but lacklaster character background that was badly placed. The film finally starts to pick up in like the last thirty minutes, the rest is just... boring and more character development with story. This film had so much potential but it’s Brought down by half baked scripts and scares.

It’s a great anime that has this Ghibli vibe, although the cgi is kinda trash it’s easy to ignore it. The characters are great and the plot and the world building is so good but the story itself starts to fall apart within the other half of the movie, it starts to get a little predictable followed by a great ending imo. Good movie I would recommend

in the tall grass isnt about I got you you got scared kind of movie, it’s all about the atmosphere and the imagery. The fear of the horror slowly falls as you get near to the end and you’re left thinking and trying to find out wha tis happening. however what does hold up this movie is the cinematography, plot and it’s really interesting ideas (time Loops) if it didn’t have these then the movie would get really boring. Although there were some plot holes and some things that aren’t explained right what lacks the horror element here makes up for the rest.

I wish there was an option to do in the middle because this movie was great... until it strains out to okay. The ‘suspensfulness’ of the movie isn’t really that good, it didn’t get me scared or atleast a little bit hyped. And the ending was just... so unnecessary, making the ending lead into the sequel is just a cash grab bc to me the movie doesn’t need another sequel, it would just strain it out. But what I liked is the characters, the creative camera movement, the way things start set up. If you want something that you want to joke about, without taking the movie too seriously, then watch it.
