The film draws on a dynamic that is so common in black homes. A black woman devoting her entire life to support the dream of her husband, sacrificing her own dreams all while being cheated on and undermined. Anybody would go crazy in such circumstances. Theres a lot of pain and anguish behind the crazy black lady stereotype. Even in her full crazy mode, Melinda was still the protagonist in my eyes. I was rooting for her even as she appeared on her ex husbands boat threatening to kill him and his new wife. Life is so unfair. I’m thankful for the realness of this movie. We could all reach a breaking point like that one day especially in a world that is rife with injustice and inequality - mental health is everything!!!
