We love Ghost - but part of loving someone is the ability to be honest, and subjective ; without being blinded by it.
There have been a lot of reviews about Tobias Forge being โhonest and openโ on this album - which may very well be true. With that said, just because something is โhonestโ - is doesnโt get a free pass. There is a certain objectivity to good things and bad things, and Ghost is not an exception.
This album is nearly across the board a net negative compared to past albums. Skeleta is a massive divergence from what has made ghost, ghost. Tobias has steered it in an unrecognizable direction, leaning into 80s themes we have heard dozens of times.
In my opinion, Skeleta should have been a side project, without the Ghost brand on it. It does not earn its name Ghost, and does not get a free pass just because it may be โhonest.โ
