Although this show is essentially just a variation of Dexter, it actually has a really good premise and in theory, should be really good on screen. But the acting is absolutely atrocious, and the plot has virtually no direction, which is probably why the show was cancelled.
One of my biggest complaints about this show is that they utilize the same shots over and over again, the same way that Family Guy or the Simpsons does. Except in a real live action tv show, so it just looks a little ridiculous and is almost insulting to the audience's intelligence. The most noticeable time they do this is in the asylum scenes where the main character goes to visit his father, and they use the same shot of the asylum over and over.
He had his moments in the show, but for the most part Tom Payne is a pretty overrated actor who shouldn't be cast in leading roles. He's not relatable, compelling, or interesting in this show at all. It genuinely did not feel like he was even the main character. I've seen clips of him in the Walking Dead and he seems to just gravitate towards these "level headed" characters who talk very fast.
The casting is also incredibly strange and poorly selected. For a show centered about one family you would think they would like somewhat similar, but they don't at all. They didn't even have similar mannerisms. One saving grace I did find the show had was the main character's father, the " surgeon" was actually a pretty funny character. Unfortunately, anytime he had a serious or dramatic scene I remembered what I was watching.
I never normally write reviews on tv shows but I got second hand embarrassment watching this. If you're a fan of this show I seriously suggest you watch Dexter and maybe re-evaluate your life. I've seen a lot of people saying this show is "underrated" and that could not be further from the truth.
