Back in the early 1950s when I was just starting to read this was a favourite book. I probably had my father's copy as I do not remember it as a new book. It inspired me to be interested in other countries and cultures such that I would lose myself into other story books relating to other cultures that my grandmother passed on to me. I then spent much of the 1970s and 1980s volunteering, working with local people in Kenya, Botswana and Papua New Guinea. In the 1990s I worked with sending school books to Malawi. Now, retired, I am helping make up tool kits to send to Africa. And this was all started off with Little Black Sambo.
