There was very little original content in this film. A ham-fisted attempt to apply a fable and historical literature to modern society and modern day problems. A very poor nephew to Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet, three times removed.
Acting was way over the top and Adam Driver's performance was excruciating - it deserved an unexpected appearance from Rey and accompanying swift lightsaber decapitation in the first 15 mins. Dustin Hoffman must have given the worst and most irrelevant performance of his entire career, butchering and changing his accent with every line.
The characters were totally one dimensional and no one would have even cared if they were all sucked into a black hole at the end of civilization in New Rome.
To cap it all off the movie ended in the most pompous banal finale in movie history - all that was missing was for Mount Vesuvius to roar into life and drain the whole cast and plot into a deep lava crater.
