It is an okay movie, to typical Disney for me, but I can't ignore the ironies in the movie. The "Ballad of Mulan" is largely believed to be a fictional story and it is ironic because in this lasting Chinese folklore tale Mulan was part of the Northern Wei dynasty.
In โThe Ballad of Mulanโ she pledges fealty to the Northern Wei, a Turco-Mongol people. The imperial family was Xianbei, not ethnic Chinese. They were actually believed to be the ancestors of the Mongols.
