Laila Majnu and Imtiaz Ali's mysticism :
Love stories are meant to be enticing no matter how unreal or supernatural they seem to be. Every individual you come across dwells this uniquely identical sensibility of love which comes from all the things they read, see, listen to and the experiences they have. This sensibility mellows with every other thing you tend to acquaint. In the nation we're living in, cinema is one significant entity which mould and carves this utter sensibility for the most, reason being the humongous reach of cinema to almost every section of the society. We are so much intrigued by this larger than life concept of love stories that subconsciously and sometimes unconsciously it drives a big enough part of our lives.
Every film maker has his own distinctive language and manner to reach out, sometimes it's so dense and vital that it reaches the impenetrable layers and produce a long lasting impact. When the first poster of this film arrived I revisited the series of emotions I had when I first read this story almost a decade back, everything was so different back then but that strange amazement regarding the soul of that story tucked beneath and was probably hibernated idle till I saw that poster and then the name attached to it, it was Imtiaz Ali, these two reasons were pretty enough to evoke one like me. It's a literal feast to experience Imtiaz Ali's quixotic approach to a narrative, he is a prodigy and possess this amazing way of converging reality to this soothing ethereal world of the characters he create, the characters which appears magically existential in their own worlds. Despite of being a fantasy the inherent core of the original Laylah-Majnun itself is so surreal that it seems ridiculously unrelatable for the reader that how can this happen but there only lies the spell of its transcendence and the subtle mysticism it resides within. The story caress the utmost extremes of what an unconditional and pious love actually defines. There are so many eternal stories on star-crossed lovers but that's what makes 'Laylah-majnun' different from the rest.
The film is not phenomenal or a masterpiece or something but what it manages to accomplish is the truthfulness and divinity the original story contains, it's soul remains intact, it takes you to that crazily pleasant world of Qais and makes you fall in love with laila over and over, all coming from the excellent writing, dazzling performances and such lovingly tempting soundtrack. It has all the colors an Imtiaz ali film should have despite he didn't directed the film, there are some scenes which will give you shivers like anything and please you to the core. Only Imtiaz Ali can make and transit a story like Laylah-majnun to a feature keeping it's soul and tenderness untouched and uncompromised. It was an endearing cinematic experience. A beautifully gratifying musical after a long time.
