The main problem with the film is the overall lie that it would be more culturally accurate than the animated film. It isn't. It is further away from the ballad than the cartoon. There is no empowerment in the film. It depicts that "if you're gifted, you can do anything" There is nothing empowering. The witch was a useless and pointless addition. Mulan having super powers ruins the point of the story. She wasn't meant to be a superhero. The characters are poor. The screen writing feels like there were scenes just cut out because they end abruptly. There is no flow. It is soulless. I think next time they should get a Chinese screen writer if they wanted it to be more culturally accurate.
