2/5
Of the two hours of the movie's run-time, there are a few good moments, but it is poorly executed overall. The movie sets up problems that have no pay off, characters make stupid decisions that the audience wouldn't make, the "infected" don't seem to obey any set of rules for how they should act, the timeline jumping adds nothing to the suspense or the storytelling, and the whole movie is predictable and formulaic.
Sandra Bullock and Trevante Rhodes are responsible for most of the positive aspects of the movie. Their acting combined with their well written characters and their interactions with the kids are definitely the highlights. That's not to say that the other actors performed poorly, but the other characters are never developed or really even necessary to the plot.
The beginning of "the Problem" is another highlight, even if it feels similar to every other apocalypse origin ever put to film. It has interesting sequences and all of the best deaths.
Shot selection could have been better, but wasn't bad.
