Katy Moran – Google

I have never seen an onscreen couple that have so little chemistry before. It’s painful to watch. The incessant whispering in place of acting, the slow, dragging pace and the fact it’s impossible to care for the lead couple, make this show very poor indeed. Aside from that, the way it’s filmed feels like a 90s cbbc show- think the queens nose. They clearly had a budget because they are on location in parts, but they did not spend it well. It’s a shame because you can see the story has legs, just a terrible iteration of it.

I think children will love this and I didn’t hate it. However, while the cinematography and costumes are incredible, there is no discernible plot. Well actually there are loads of potential plot lines that never really come to a point (the matador is an example) It feels like they have taken scenes from loads of Christmas/ kids movies ever and tried to make a script. Scrooge, Peter Pan, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory are some of the most obvious. That said the cast are charming, especially young Edison, who I am sad we didn’t see more off. Also the young Jeronicus who’s opening number (in my opinion) stole the show. I was really sad when I realised he wasn’t playing the lead. Overall, this is a fun family film and I enjoyed it. Is it Christmas Chronicles level? Not in my opinion BUT I think it’s definitely worth a watch.
