As difficult as it may be to experience negativity toward anything Dwayne Johnson is in, this film may actually have pulled it off. His character has no arc, is annoyingly one dimensional, & completely unnecessarily whitewashed. The plot & story attempt to lampoon classic campy B movie tropes but it just comes off as gratuitously repetitious. Not to be too picky, but even with the most generous SOD, so much stands out as too convenient, they just yada yada the lack of language barrier, & much much more that perpetually kept taking me right out of the film, & [SPOILER ALERT] including one of the most terrifying sci-fi creatures ever devised as a cute little puppy-like character that stows away on the departing ship at the end basically suggests that the film's true ending results in the Rock being implanted with an alien embryo, & upon returning his dead body to earth unleashing the fully gestated alien murder monster on the planet completely wiping out the human race. Ha ha, funny. Maybe that's not what they meant to imply but I'm sure you can see how it might seem that way to anyone who's seen the Aliens movies. The 1950's/sci-fi aesthetic was cool, I liked the art direction, & some of the gags were amusing but that's about all I can say for it, what a complete waste of Dwayne Johnson, Gary Oldman, Jessica Biel, John Cheese, & the incomparable Justin Long. The cast was what enticed me to waste over an hour of my life on this movie, if you haven't seen it, don't make the same mistake.
