This author is new to me. I couldn’t put the book down and it was a quick read. The Free was written in 2014 and through science fiction imagery, it examines social issues in the US. Vlautin has been compared to Steinbeck in his sympathetic portrayal of underclass heroes. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
