Not only do I rarely find any authenticity in a Hollywood-style bio pic, but to have it as a jukebox musical could only spell out silly disaster.... However, this film is befitting it's subject, most especially with what I usually find detestable... It works, it's beautiful, it's breathtaking at times... The lead actor becomes his subject... The subjects' 4 decade-spanning songs are transcribed as truly classical in their dramatic beauty... Great new direction for an otherwise common narrative of a pop-culture icon gone to excess... Elton John's life & music get the glitz & oversize drama it requires... surprisingly great!
