As and avowed Dune fan, one might have expected director Denis Villeneuve to have strictly adhered to the letter of the book. What he accomplished, however, was much greater. He captured the spirit of Frank Herbert's epic novel in all of its darkness, reflections on politics, human nature and religion and shades of grey on what defines good versus evil.
This is what Dune is all about. If you have read the book you will understand that a simple "morality play" like George Lucas' Star Wars, which was derived from Dune and even David Lynch's adaptation miss the mark. This is a great movie version of the book that could only be topped by Denis Villeneuve's Part 2 installment!
