I’m shocked this book has such stellar reviews when the writing is honestly so difficult to enjoy and makes the narrative impossible to follow. Kathy Reichs has sacrificed narrative cohesion and readability for stylistic narrative choices that show the main character’s (Temperance Brennan) personality. It’s honestly a very difficult read but the actual content of the book isn’t that dense. I’m only a few chapters in but it is evident to me that editor has done a pathetic job and Reichs writing is rushed and sloppy. Regularly I’m finding myself having to reread sentences again and again for them to make any sort of sense and it really stilts the narrative flow when you need to read a sentence at least three times to comprehend what is being said. I’m legiterally only four chapters deep and so far there have been confusing sentences and prose on every page. I want to enjoy it and I am going to continue but a word of warning, the narrative flow of this book is weird and frustrating. The editor has done a pathetic job and it can be extremely difficult to follow along at times.
