The first 20 minutes are great! After that, it's not that interesting or inventive like the first film was. It's more of an homage to Speilberg's work in terms of the direction and shot selection in that everything is telegraphed before it happens as well as recycled bits of others films like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and The Road to solve story holes. That said, the acting is excellent, especially Emily Blunt who has the heavy lifting of making something out of nothing given to her character. This film is not clever, or surprising or a fun ride as it should be. Instead it's a predictable flat line with a bloated budget that does not lend itself to the sophistication it should have of the first film. The first film had such great style and so many surprises and originality. This one fails baldly borrowing too much from other films to make anything really surprising or interesting. Sadly this film is not memorable.
