Sazbear 391

This is one of the most INFURIATING films I've watched this year. Spoiler-free summary: A mix of great actors, giving convincing performaces of a decently compelling plot with several interesting twists and moral dilemmas. It lacks pace at times, and has what I would consider a frustrating lack of resolution. SPOILERS: the last plot twist is exactly what happens when a movie idea is smugly understood by everyone involved in making it, to the point that when they cut and edit the final product they are completely blind to the fact that they've cut out all the explanation to their 'big twist.' This leaves a confused and frustrated audience, who can see the way the plot has changed, but can't see how the characters reached that conclusion. The final result was full of holes that could have been extremely easy to fill, it's lazy. Are we expected to believe that Collin's wife (who has no relationship with him at all, and says about 5 words to him throughout) has discussed the salary of his lover with him?? Why would the journalist hear her mutter that and immediately assume her husband told her, and that he is therefore involved in the stalking? And where did Collin's nutter/assissin/army bloke get the 26k figure from? It wasn't from Dominic, because nutter/army bloke would have killed him for working for PointCorp, like he did with Sonia. He wouldnt have been able to sleuth or investigate for the information because its established in the movie that he's not mentally cable of being discreet. Sooo if the nutter/army guy didn't get the 26k figure, then maybe Collins did financial checks on Sonia separately, in which case why wasn't that addressed, since finding evidence is the whole quest? Once Collins was reframed as the focus of the article/scandal, did the other congressman and big bad corp get to slither off into the shadows? Isnt that letting the story get ahead of public interest? The lack of explanation is unsatisfying and leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

So, my simple mind was thrilled by the concept, zombie movie - cool, heist movie - yes please. It had potential, it had a decent paced start, but then it just got REALLY bad. It's so slow, and I dont mean 'exciting slow' as in I'm willing the characters to run faster, I mean I was begging them to hurry up and die so that I could go to bed. It's a shame because the general premise is good, but if you want me to listen to a 5 minute heartfelt speech from a dying father, you should make me care about him first (which I didn't.) None of the characters were developed at all, which is fine if the movie is thrilling enough, but it just wasnt. They missed some cool opportunities to make the plot better, the script was poor, they literally forgot a character, and the supposedly dramatic ending was as slow and predictable as a painful death by zombie venom. All in all as my bf summed up, the premise is a solid 3 stars, but the execution takes it to 1. Give it a miss and spend 2 hours doing anything else.
