The juxtaposition of the beauty of the natural world and the horror of war was heart wrenching. The simplicity and peace of the way of life of the indigenous people in contrast with the pain and suffering of the soldiers was hard to wrap your head around. This was a masterpiece.

Once I started watching I was captivated. The pace is very calm--you get lots of time to look into the faces of the characters and get a feeling for who they are. They seem like real people, not actors. And I liked the low-key humor. I didn't want Shtisel to end!

It definitely evoked the deep feelings of sadness and despair that I experience regarding the human caused destruction of our planet home. Impeccable acting by Ethan Hawke and great supporting cast. The pace was meditative and appropriately drew attention to the grave subject matter. We need to listen. Works of art like this movie may open some eyes, but I doubt it! The ending was a shocker!!!
