The Cheese

I thought this was a pretty well done flick in watching a seasoned war photo journalist fall apart and a young photo journalist basically turn into a figurative ghoul. The premise of the civil war is somewhat silly and it’s not going to spoon feed you a “these are the lefties, these are the righties” narrative. Watching the experienced gal fall apart as she sees the horror of war now at home and her peers dropping while the young gal gets sucked into the adrenaline rush of it all was what worked for me. This movie seems to frustrate a lot of ppl as it isn’t feeding or substantiating their biases. The civil war was the backdrop IMO to watching one human being fall apart and another lose her humanity. Simple as.

I think this flick is gonna take a helluva lot of ppl out of their comfort zone. It’s also gonna get squat upon because it validates the (to many) icky practice of prepping. The guy who plays George gives the strongest performance IMO. The little white girl is the most annoying of the cast. The rest of the cast is okay with Ethan Hawk being passable and everyone else being pretty good. Good tension. There’s far worse on Netflix for sure!

What a disappointment. A great premise that completely falls apart with an ending that is so far up its own rear end as to make the first 3/4 of the movie a waste. The “twist” is a joke, the plot reveal is joke and you’re arguably left with an ideologically fueled ending that is about as subtle as boot to the teeth. I’ll say this: This movie will appeal to Antifa types. So be it. The premise WOULD work if the antagonist was intent on fighting ALL the evils of the world. Instead, you’re left with leftist agitprop. This movie could’ve been great; instead, it’s worth watching up ‘til the last 20 minutes. After that, be ready for an Antifa wet dream.
