This drama is definitely not your typical soap opera. It has so much meat in the storyline that in it you find the theme of love and warmth of being a family, disappointments and betrayals, struggles, and character flaws. Yet, there is a beauty in trust and looking after those you care about. I can't say more of how much I have enjoyed the story so far, and I am at episode 16. Whenever I hear the Cantonese music and song played while they are doing their martial art jigs, I just cracked up because I have watched a lot of old Hong Kong movies. I thought the spy gadgets were cute. I find the scriptwriter has a way of surprising the audience with its twists and turns of the plot and the development of the story. The story covers a broad spectrum bringing in some history, some intrigue, some family relationships, and definitely how power is being used and when.

Definitely, a family drama, depicting the struggles that families go through. I like how they use the grandpa's life as a seaman, a great imagery where he had to sail through many storms at sea. On land, the typical struggles of life like getting a steady job, promotion, disappointments, etc, are your storms at sea. Lovely theme. It touches on so many notes and levels of human relationships, from the grandparents to grandchildren, from parents interfering with their children's love lives to cute bright children who don't have the love of their parents to raise them. What a basketful of colorful characters to work through. I find the male lead is a bit weak where his love life is so easily manipulated by the women around him. For me, I feel the male should always lead the relationship and stick to it. The theme of greed is greatly portrayed in the different facets of life. I still like how the writer shows what real love is. What is yours will come to you, no use trying to cling so hard on to something or someone when it is not yours. Thank you for making this drama. The episodes are long. I had to skip and pick the scenes that I want to watch, but still worth the watch.

This is one of my favorite all-time movies that I would watch from time to time. The story line shows the obstacles that the working class have to overcome. The conflict of whether to achieve your dream or to succumb to defeat is quite real. It shows the constant tug-of-war that goes on in a man's will but it takes someone who has faith to believe to overcome. The acting is wonderful and the setting is realistic. I would not say it is a drama that highlights just one particular character, for example, a hero per se, but it is a group working together that makes this drama not flashy but real. I enjoyed it in the early 2000's and I just watched it in 2019 with some ESL students and they loved it.
