I saw the original when I was 5 and had the opportunity to take my girlfriend and my 9 and 5 year old to the remake last night at the same drive in I saw the original at. I am grateful to Disney and all the staff involved with this film for creating that memory for me. That being said I have likes and dislikes.
The good. First off the visuals are great as a nature doc lover the CGI team really put in the time and effort for a great realistic look and it shows. 2nd Seth Rogan and Billy Eichner as Pumba and Timon carried the film for me as an adult. I also enjoyed the music score (not the songs) it was alot like the original and it really set me back in the tone I felt with the original.
Now the bad.
First and foremost the songs they were changed on alot of fronts. The note carry was different and that really made it feel strange to me. 2nd the movie felt rushed for some reason I cant put my finger on why but it does. Lastly I feel that Rafiki was really stripped of alot of his charm and mysticism from the original. If you love the original you may likely be indifferent to the remake. Still loved the experience and memory of getting to relive this with my children.
