The show is a critique of the past the present and the future all at once. It could be said that they portray both the worlds i.e. new London and the savage lands, as both an utopia and a dystopia all at the same time I guess it depends on your perspective.
The show is definitely not about exhibitionism but rather it’s about the loss of meaning and reintroduction of meaning, now deciding whether it is good or bad is a very binary perspective to have.
Aesthetically the show is impeccable. In terms of presenting a message I guess they hit the mark. But there’s something for everyone to takeaway from this series. I hope it’s renewed for another season.
And if you’re not too busy getting distracted by all the visuals the subtext is basically this, stability is a fleeting fiction, change is constant and you cannot escape entropy. And if there is a way to escape it humans definitely do not have the answers and neither does anything we create eg. AI.
We’re always in pursuit of meaning, it’s our nature and that cannot be numbed down forever, whatever the method used.
