Not my type of movie, but I very much enjoyed it nonetheless. It was original and unique with the talented directing one can expect from Shyamalan (sorry if I misspelled that. It explores the various possibilities that could arise from the issue within very well.
My only issue is the solution seemed to be a tad bit too convenient, but they did build up to it (spoiler in parentheses: they did mention coral and show Trent’s code-breaking activities with Idib).
I saw one person call it laughable full of plot holes, but I and anybody else I talked to about it didn’t find any, and the reviewer failed to provide any examples of where there would be any, so I can’t help. The same reviewer explained that the portrayal of mental illness within the movie was offensive and didn’t go deep enough, but the reviewer needs to understand that the movie was now strictly about mental illness. Now I don’t know if the reviewer has a mental illness, but I do and I did not mind at all because if the movie was to express the true depth of mental illness, it would drag on too long and distract from the real plot of the movie.
All in all it was a unique and intriguing movie that didn’t let you stop and think, new issues arose that the characters had to deal with. It was bittersweet, and I’m very glad I got to see it.
