Captivating, great messages, and tightly written. Every little detail gets payoff as part of solving the mystery, but entertains readers on its own merits too. (Looking at you, Rabbit.) Nicholas’ growth as a character ties nicely into the mystery itself, and even the antagonists have nuanced motivations. Occasionally slow, but nevertheless hard to put down. On par with the first book of Mysterious Benedict Society series, and probably better.
