Joy Jenkins – Google

Queen & Slim surpassed my expectations. It was REALLY good minus the unnecessary Purple Rain -esque sex scene & the unbiblical portrayal of Christians. It will go down as a classic. I cant really think of another movie to compare it to. It stands alone. I liked the Luther Vandross Never Too Much on the soundtrack. I loved Marvin Sapp on the soundtrack with his classic He Saw The Best In Me. I was already crying but when Lauryn Hill came on I was boo hoo tears all over the place with the Set It Off style ending. It is a VERY well written story. My take aways are that life is complicated. Things often arent in blk and white. Life is full of gray areas. Unity of black ppl was a strong theme. Grace was another. I loved that the couple never had a fight. Sure they disagreed but there was no breaking up and heart break like in Empire, Love Jones, The Best Man, or Love & Basketball. They nailed almost every aspect of blk culture. I wish HOLLYWOOD showed blk love in purity.

I went to see Photograph. The soundtrack is BOMB with all of our favorite 80s songs from Luther, Anita Baker, Whitney, Patti, Karyn White and so much more. It has a heavy jazzy feel like Denzel in Mo Better Blues. Remember that Spike Lee classic? Its a quiet movie. (Nice way of saying slow and boring) Its said to be 2 love stories told at once. In all reality its a super hyped up and over rated booty call. Unfortunately when it was over I sd, "That's it?" It seems like there needed to be more. There's no nudity in the movie but I hate how Hollywood makes sex so casual. Its well written and acted. Do NOT go to this movie if you are sleepy. As a matter of fact, even if you're not sleepy, this movie is known to lull its audience to sleep.
