Yes, I agree with the other review...I put off watching it, because it looked trashy. But once I started, I knew from the first minute that it was good, and I watched all three seasons within a week. It is great!!! Maybe they should think about putting a different thumbnail up? Since it seems to be a common misconception.
So the gist of it is, Bess was given up for adoption as a baby and raised as a posh, spoiled, single child, by a loving, if uptight, mother. She accidentally finds out as a grown women who is married and has children of her own, that she was adopted, and then she finds her birth family, who are a crazy bunch from "the other side of the tracks." The two mothers are in competition for her time and affection. Bess is a neurotic person from the beginning, and this only makes her more neurotic. All the supporting cast is great, and all the characters are pretty equally fleshed out.
In short, delightful.
