This, in my opinion, was a fun movie. Very funny, but it still had a great story... with one exception.
The climax is something I have discovered is far beyond a personal gripe. It’s unnecessary, unsettling, and just kind of thrown in because they needed a climax. The way it ends is still heartfelt, but there are definitely better ways to convey it.
The rest of the story is very good. It’s tough to say what it is without spoilers, but it jumps from one plot line to another, but it still has the same goal, making it fit together well. The movie shows how bright and fun the internet can be, but also warns about how there are spots best left alone. While the climax is a bit creepy... who am I kidding. That bit is horrifying.
If they cut that 15 minutes or so out of the movie, I have a feeling nobody would argue.
Overall though, Wreck It Ralph 2 is worth a watch. It has a meta-commentary on internet culture and not only shows the bad parts, but also shows how it can bring about lots of good. While the trailer where the princesses talked about how “all your problems were solved because a big strong MAN showed up”, I was worried this movie would shove in an unnecessary feminist message. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m all for female empowerment, but the way they were talking it sounded like they would turn Vanellope against Ralph simply because he’s a man. However, this was just a fun joke making fun of cliches, and it went very smoothly. But I digress...
Wreck it Ralph 2 was one of the best Disney sequels I’ve seen in a while. It truly felt like they cared about their product and not their profit. I’d say it’s worth a watch, or at least a renting when it comes out of theaters.
