The trailer looked great and the reviews were great. But this movie wasn’t.
I’ll start off with the fact that I did study in art school so I’ve taken my fair share of conceptual art classes and film classes. This feels like a project constructed by one of my classmates that I used to roll my eyes at.
It was pretty clear from the beginning who the story was about and then it’s literally spelled out for you in the end but somehow still feels unfinished.
Despite that, the first half was brilliant and could have set this movie up to be one of the best unreliable narrator thrillers in the modern film era. Instead, it devolves into a plotless (and quite literally) endless story with an over-explored and underwhelming theme.
And, like my former classmates, the film seems to have gotten by with the explanation of “well, it’s really the viewer’s interpretation of the piece that is the art.”
I recommend to not watch this movie. Unless you have a film class and need to use it as an example that you can dissect.
