“Gallipoli” by Australian director Peter Weir explores the hardships that the soldiers had to face during world war 1. It displays the trenches, how they were very unhygienic and of poor quality. The film has portrayed a soldier’s life during ww1 pretty well, it highlights how they lost their friends and family in the war. The tension also shifts from the scenes in Egypt as they were messing around and having parties to the scene where they arrive on the shores of Gallipoli, at this moment you can immediately notice Frank’s face is scared and if you looked at Archie’s face he was excited for the war. Archie did not know that this was a life and death situation until he actually saw people die. This film had a good introduction and a climax but the end could have been solved better. At the end you see Archie getting shot right before the credit scene, this was due to the poor communication in the film, I believe that the director could have changed this and at least continued on from his death by showing the rest of Frank’s life. He could have been telling a story all along and just imagining the flashback’s that the audience saw as the scene’s in the film. Overall, the film has portrayed the life of a soldier, trench warfare, life and death situations, loss, violence and friendship.
