I don’t know why I go into movies with high expectations after reading the book. There wasn’t enough character development or enough of a relationship buildup between Dan and Abra. The movie felt rushed so they could make the climactic scenes more drawn out. Going off the book, the first 30 minutes or so were relatively on par with Stephen King's version. And then it’s a whole different path. Characters are missing, integral moments in the storyline are passed over and loosely filled in with flashbacks or small passings by. Several characters even die in the movie when they’re key pieces in the book. Hell, the Overlook burned to the ground in the book and it’s still standing on film. Overall, it just felt disingenuous, rushed even. But I guess that’s how all movies are compared to the books they’re based on.
