The film adaptation 'OEDIPUS REX' (1957) of sophoclean play by Tyrone Guthrie and Abraham Polonsky is explicably effective. Play takes place within a small place. It looks like altar, for a sacrifice. The stage is surrounded by a dark cyclorama . Use of masks give the tint of old Greek tradition. It looks like as it would in festival of dyonisia, when it would've been staged first. Due to masks the facial expressions are hidden, but voices convey the emotion. The modern audience might get bore due to unrelatability with the greek theatrical tradition and setup. But the visual adaptation helps in understanding the plot more clearly. The role play of fate intertwined with actions is clearly visible
