Although reason might be clear to certain faults such as wanting to make an original film and how to add certain characters in a live action film, this does not excuse all the faults made. One major problem was the creators implement of the key message regarding women empowerment. Because of their determination to get the point across, they never paid attention to if the film was any good in the first place. After watching the film it appears as though they didn’t even watch the movie as a movie, but as a video made to show of certain bulletpoints on a list.
Cool fighting scenes, check.
important message, check.
incredible acting with little to no flaws, check.
yet another comment on the execution of the message on women empowerment is how unnecessary the change of implement was. the animated version gave a message of equality. a women can do anything a man can. certain scenes wrote those words in stone such as the “i’ll make a man out of you” song while Mulan trained with the army overcoming the hurdle of the intense drills done in an army camp. another great scene that engrained the common message the two movies share is before the climax when Mulan and her friends sneak into the palace dressed as women. the small group accept Mulan for the warrior she is.
even after all these flaws are counted there’s the largest one of releasing such a bad film in the first place. if the makers new they couldn’t have it live up to the magic of the first, then releasing the remake in such a quality the original is tainted.
