After awaiting to watch this Masterpiece for so long, I have finally experienced what I believe to be Terrence Malick's most meditative, personal, spiritual film till date. The Cinematography by Jorg Widmer is ethereal, the score by James Newton Howard is transcendental. Valerie Pachner (Fani) & August Diehl (Franz) have brought alive the spirit of their respective characters in the most sublime way possible. It feels as if they are not "acting" out the performances methodically but simply just being gracefully themselves. The love between them surpasses all odds. This is truly Cinema at it's highest peak of visual storytelling. Malick makes gives you a glimpse of the divine hidden within Nature. Blessed Franz Jägerstätter's convictions and deep faith show us to believe in what is true especially in the current time of nationalist politics prevailing all over the world. The profound element of 'A Hidden Life' is the humility of the characters, the whole film is simply an act of meditative humility and not a focus on validation between right and wrong. There is visual depth which is present in all of Malick's film but it feels to be the most in this one. This is meant to be experienced on a big screen. Unfortunately a film like did not get a wide release it truly deserves.
'A Hidden Life' has the power to stay with you, it makes you contemplate the purpose of our actions on this paradise. Thank you Terrence Malick for this genius work of art.
