This show is plainly average, has a rushed character arc for our protagonist and a confusing theme. It takes five episodes for Tony to better himself but happens so suddenly.
The first four-and-a-half episodes could almost be played in any order due to the lack of development.
After Life will get way more credit than it deserves due to the subject matter. It's quite emotional and that will resonate with some people, but it didn't for me.
There's a lot of victim-blaming when it comes to depression and weird levity during talk of suicide.
They didn't really discuss addiction as much as it should have either given a certain character's role in the show. Tony's decision that led to THAT shocking moment was insane and criminal too. Just gonna gloss over that are we?
After Life felt like a wasted opportunity to me. So many threads the show pulled at didn't go anywhere.
One theme about finding the good in everyone was prevelant, but it's a hollow production. Depression seems to be misrepresented in this, as if it can be willed away without effort.
This is a 6/10 production. Nothing more. It's not Derek or Life's Too Short but it's not Extras either.
PS. There are a some recycled Xfm jokes for the die-hards too, but they're predictable.
