Today I'm writing review of a book which I read as a Child; “Khirer Putul” by Abanindranath Thakur. It is a Bengali Children's novel and I believe every bengali kid back then have read it. The author has introduced us to the characters of Raja (king), Duo Rani, the elder queen, Suo Rani, the younger queen, and a monkey. There are other side characters too. This is wonderful children's story with a lot of colourful pictures.
The story opens in the bed chamber of Suo Rani, the younger Queen, when Raja, the King, appears to her to bid her a good bye, before he leaves for a tour. She asks for some costly gifts from different places where king is about to visit. The King meets Duo Rani, the elder queen, too, before leaving, where she asks for a monkey as a gift. The author has beautifully taken us, with the King, to this tour in different places. The names of the places are quite fancy, I must say. The main story revolves around Duo Rani's monkey, how it becomes Duo Rani's most beloved partner and a plot of how the monkey brings back the lost respect of Duo Rani. I’ll not share the story anymore for avoiding spoilers. So, if you want to know more; go and read.
Author’s straightforward simple language, colourful pictures and dialogues in direct speech make the book attractive.
This book is worth reading, for children. If you're an adult and want to take a dip in your childhood, you can read it too. If I’m to rate this book as a child i will give it a 9 but as an adult I’ll give 9 out of 10, because it's equally interesting to read in both the ages.
As a Bengali parent you must buy your kid thai Bengali Roop-Kotha.
