Great care has been taken in costumes, lighting & locations, so the atmosphere is quite authentic looking. But the script & development of the stories are weak, & the continuous background music is irritating. Each scene seems superficial as the deameanour of the characters is far from convincing. Compared with, say, Endeavour it is disappointing.
