The unique marvel of all Kaushik Ganguly's films have been an essential attempt to capture epigrammatic complexities of human relations in the most simplistic manner."Jyesthoputro"is no exception.Though the original idea has been taken from the Genuis Rituparno Ghosh's creative archive yet Ganguly is unique in his own individualistic way of presenting the tale of two brothers and their intense ego struggles. The storyline is based on the conflicts of two brothers, the elder one played by Prosenjit Chatterjee,a successful movie star who is source of malice and competition for the younger brother played by Rwithik Chakroborty. Its a story of their broken family bonding, the deteriorating heritage of a communist culture and subaltern emotional tension between the main characters and the well chosen subplot.Performance wise Prosenjit Chatterjee shines throughout the film overshadowing everyone else with his teeth biting subtle expression of a failed son suffering from the dilemma of losing on the personal level owing to his ambitious career struggle.Sudipta Chakroborty as Ila,the mentally challenged sister is vulnerably fascinating. More scope could be given to Rwithik as an actor considering his phenomenal acting prowess. The movie lacks pace in the first half and suffers a lack of musical feeding given the backdrop of an affinity to Tagore. What makes the movie a haunting experience is the poetry piece of the scarecrow justifying the title aptly-indeed it takes a lot to be the keeper and the eldest prodigy of any family. But the ending nullifies all of it and raises question on the validity of being the eldest son "jyesthoputro"...is it all about shouldering the bigger responsibilities or being there through all the thick and thin?
