Ben Wheatley returns to folk horror in the field with a backdrop of COVID-19 paranoia. Starts with a strong sense of purpose, two scientists go into the woods to find a lost colleague. Then the lines between science and magic blur as the local lore of the forest is revealed. This revelation culminates in psychedelic episodes that leave the viewer unsure and unsatisfied with the movie's conclusion. As a result, the movie is a piece of stylised art rather than a cautionary cinematic tale.
