White Collar is one of the few tv-series that stayed true to its roots. The show didn't have an identity crisis and completely change course like many other hit tv shows- the characters, writing, and story all stayed consistent.
The relationship between Neal and Peter is just awesome. They start out as convict and FBI agent, but through the course of the show that dynamic changes to more of a father-son relationship. To Neal, Peter is the father he never had. Peter believes in him but also doesn't completely trust him. He always knows when Neal is up to something. This helps Neal to at least try to become a good person. Neal finds something akin to family in Peter, Elizabeth, June, and Mozzie. He finds a reason to stay and even be happy. He wants to stay in New York and even give up the life of riches he stole to have at one point. He kinda wants what Peter and Elizabeth have but time and again he finds out that maybe the picket fence life wasn't maybe meant for someone like him.
The cases are interesting because they're wrapped up in art history and they're not your typical murder or robbery. How Neal approaches them, solves them, and manipulates the situations is fascinating.
This is one of the few tv shows I binged to the end :)
