I absolutely hated this book. The way it was written felt like a third grader had written it, consistently changing between first and third person perspective for no apparent reason. The characters were bland and flat, and it wasn't the epic fantasy adventure I was promised. Not to mention that Maas can't seem to follow the rule of 'show don't tell" at all This book is an absolute trainwreck, and I don't understand why it's so well rated.

Mulan 1998 is one of my favorite movies ever. This movie didn't cut it; AT ALL Let me start with the fact that the entire message of the animated movie, as well as 'the ballad of mulan' was stripped away. In this movie mulan was practically made out to be a super hero. She didn't struggle. She didn't overcome obstacles, she was just "good"; automatically, right away. And honestly they're explanation for this was also terrible. The entirely miss represented chi in a way that's laughable at best. Another issue I had was that many of the sets looked cheap. The same went for the cgi. I get that parts of this were filmed in china, but the parts that weren't just look bad. The final issue I'm going to address here is the characters. They are hollow shells of what they once were. There is no depth to them, no character development. They just feel like cardboard cutouts rather than real people. I had many other issues with the film aswell, but far to many to address here. Save your money. Disney doesn't need it. They did a horrible job representing chinese culture and made a lackluster film that had potential to be so much more.
