I thought Robt.Mitchum was very wooden and I was rather mystified as to why he was needed. The series seemed to fall between two stools - an accurate documentary and a fiction with the War as a background. RM seemed to just stand around as historical figures spoke their parts around him. Why was he there? Was it really necessary to invent fictional German generals, for example? If fiction was to take center stage, it needed a more dynamic part to move everything along.
