If you want to capture the true essence of this movie, just read anybody’s review who gave this film 2 stars or less, they’ve hit everything on the head so I don’t have to reiterate it here. I will say this, in the last 30 min of the movie, I just kept saying to myself “she deserves to die”. Honestly in hindsight I could say that from about the 20 minute mark but you tend to overlook the initial obvious nonsensical decisions because that’s the predictability of a thriller but it became hard to watch after a while.

This is essentially the black version of Dynasty. It’s not terrible but it’s not great and after two episodes I’ve been very underwhelmed. It’s very confusing due to the heavy hitters that we see as supporting cast members (Morris, Lance, Joe) but Yaya, although I like her a lot as an actress, seems a bit out of depth. Her acting seems a bit overly dramatic and unnatural. I’m hoping her performance gets better as the series go on or maybe the writing itself is the problem. It also seems like everything in the show is rushed. It is great to see drama early on and have some secrets revealed in each episode. However, it’s to the point where you get lost in what’s going on in the moment as you’re trying to remember what’s been revealed previously. The romance between Yaya and Lance’s characters is super cringey. They escalate from a cute flirt in the first episode to him baptizing her in the second lol, very weird. Also the LGBT storyline is very obviously being forced and it’s simply unnecessary. I’m all for inclusion and equal representation but just make it make sense. It feels like that storyline is just thrown in to appease a community which seems prejudicial in itself. I’m going to tune in though to see where this goes, hoping for the best.
