The best of the three post-quils, without a doubt. Keep in mind the rambling plot of episode VII and the pointless preachy side-quests of episode VIII. Still I thought the character development of Rey was good in this one and the plot mostly made sense. The film also did a good job of filling in gaps of the other two, though I’m not convinced that was the intention since episode VI.
The good: of course beautiful visuals and fast action, fun dialogue quips
The positive ‘negatives’ - less Rose-and-Finn duo. Less pointless side stories. Less whiney Kylo. (Keep in mind, positive ‘negatives’ should have never happened in the first place)
The bad - More shredding of Star Wars cannon fundamentals - such as principals of light speed travel, limits of force abilities, and more presupposition for the sake of convenience or deus ex machina.
Summary: JJ did his thing, which never worked for Star Wars. The writers at least put in some good stuff for fans and the characters but pretty much wrecked the train. The main actors did a good job with what they had and we’re enjoyable.
