Fluke is a book by the (usually) horror novelist, James Herbert - Also an excellent film. The main protagonist is a man who dies under exceptional or unusual circumstances, and finds himself reincarnated as a dog. He has flashbacks to his death. During his early time as a dog, he manages to find his home, and thus his bereaved family. The children love the stray dog and their mother agrees to take the dog in. Fluke (the dogs given name; due to his odd behaviour and good-luck) begins to work upon the cause of his death, aided by the flashbacks, in order to understand how he finds himself in this crazy predicament. What he unearths during his investigations shakes his belief and his view of Self. A brilliant story, and child friendly, surprisingly, considering the authors other works of fiction.
