I'm surprised by the negative reviews. It's an odd, offbeat movie but not poorly acted or badly constructed. If you watch all the way to the end, it comes full circle and makes a lot of sense. The premise is terrifying, that people like Marla can get legal guardianship of elderly people and manipulate the system to make themselves rich. She's successful because she presents herself as a professional woman who deeply 'cares' about people, and the family court judge isn't willing to look below the surface. It's easier just to stamp the papers and turn the elderly over to Marla. The movie shows that women like Marla aren't intimidated by anyone, and they're as capable of evil as a Russian mafia boss. Just because she looks like she's in a Ralph Lauren ad doesn't mean she's a good person. She's ruthless. I enjoyed the black humor in the film and the one-upmanship between Marla and Roman. It was suspenseful and had some unexpected plot twists. Just watch it with an open mind and don't be put off by the fact that it doesn't follow predictable models. It's not the standard run of the mill movie.
