Perhaps the best bit about this amazing mini-series is the raw authenticity with which it presents the life of a human over the time-space of several years. The fleeting timelines draw parallels and contradictions with Patrick's life at all points and all contribute to a brilliant narrative arc. Filled with elements of childhood trauma fuelled substance abuse and life long struggles, the series encompasses the eponymous character's rise and fall and rise again.
I love the sheer brilliance of Benedict and the suave with which he adds wit, humor, angst and so much rage into his character while delivering an impeccable performance. Loved him for his breakthrough Sherlock series, but this goes leaps and bounds ahead. Plus Tim Burton's colour pallete, the gorgeous cinematography and the nuanced intricacies of the British elite are a surprising plus.
