The visual effects of the remake is breathtaking, but the heart behind the characters was a huge miss. With such a great cast of vocalist it lacked the childlike luster and humor. Rafiki, Shenzi, Kamari, and Azizi were a huge missing element in the movie. The new characters were unrelatable and lacked humor. The three hyenas Shenzi, Kamari, and Azizi/Ed depicted a more serious role than the original making the movie dark. On top of it all the signature songs were absent or revised to a darker non-playful anthem. Rafiki’s signature song “asante sana squash banana” was sadly absent as well as Timone and Pumbaa’s “Hula Song.” “Be Prepared,” was revised to a darker version. Honestly, it wasn’t great! I am very disappointed in the Disney remakes. If Disney could read this review, I’d say stick to the original and make it come alive. Don’t fix what isn’t broken. Your fans aren’t coming to see a “remake” they are coming to see their favorite childhood cartoon come to life, that’s it.
