I love all the cast on this show. They are all talented beyond anything. But and it's a big but, the show suffers from an over emotional investment into psychodrama. Emma should not be susceptible to the breakdowns she exhibits and neither should any other members of the cast. It completely justifies questioning, seriously, why anyone of these people were chosen for this mission. Mental and physical stability and fitness are supreme in these arduous circumstances and frankly that does not come through. Many many many depictions of emotional struggles repeated exactly after one view point. It becomes tiring and detracts from the task at hand. There is a question of resilience that covers everyone on the crew members and if this question becomes central to our perception of the show, then it will not go down well.j

I watched the first show and found it a bit slow at first. But as it progressed I found I actually liked it a lot. Stewart is old but this is not hidden and he doesn't pretend to be anything else. His age is actually wrapped into the show in an unvarnished way that is quite refreshing. Of course Stewart is an excellent actor and embrases the role thoroughly. The man has a few dances left in him and by the end you know it. overall a very different startrek experience which I must admit I enjoyed quite a bit. Considering paying to see the rest.

I loved the idea but it was downhill all the way past the first episode. They basically chose the most psychologically unstable people on the planet to make first contact with aliens. Pettiness and idiocy abounds at every step. The creators of this show basically decided to take a reality TV show and transplant it onto a starship. Of course the usual military interventions pushing aside the stupid and ineffectual scientist is one of the main courses. Everyone is busy doing inexplicable things, shooting from the hip then wondering why it went wrong.thinking the science through never occured to the writers.
